High School Boys Stunned When Judge Informs Them That Children Once Played Sports Without Uniforms

high school boysPORTLAND — A judge decided Monday that three high school boys suing for discrimination and a chance to play on a Deering-Portland High co-op hockey team failed to prove they were being denied access to play because of their gender. Judge Thomas Warren ruled that the governing body for high school sports in Maine did not discriminate against the boys because of their gender — effectively ending the plaintiff’s chances for playing on a school hockey team. A lawsuit was filed against the Maine Principal’s Association earlier in the month after the grou[ denied a request for Deering students to join Portland High School for a co-op boy’s team, but signed off on allowing the schools to merge for a girls team.
