Red Sox Score Eight; Need Ten

The Boston Red Sox showed plenty of power on Thursday night at Fenway, scoring eight on eighteen hits, but nine runs by the Oakland Athletics and some ill-advised base-running was more than they could overcome.  The normally anemic A’s lineup managed four home runs, including two by catcher Kurt Suzuki. Tim Wakefied gave up six earned runs in the loss, dropping him to 1 -4 on the season.

Third base coach Tim Bogar is taking a lot of heat over sending baserunners Victor Martinez in the third, and Darnell McDonald in the fourth inning,  who were both thrown out at the plate.

The loss drops the Sox back into a tie for third in the AL east with Toronto.
