maine refrigeratorBANGOR, Maine — Efficiency Maine is offering Mainers a $50 incentive to recycle their old refrigerators and freezers. Available statewide, Efficiency Maine’s refrigerator recycling program provides the labor and transportation free of charge, on top of the $50 incentive. In addition, people taking part in the program can save as much as $250 a year on their electric bills, Efficiency Maine said in a press release. A recycling crew showed up Wednesday morning at Stacy Thompson’s residence on Randolph Drive in Bangor to haul away an old garage refrigerator. “We’ve been looking for a way to save on our electricity bill,” Thompson said. “The minute we unplugged that old fridge, we started saving money. It was so easy to have our old unit picked up, earn the rebate, and reduce our household energy consumption.” (read more, if you can spare the electricity, at the Bangor Daily News)
