New Choice for Maine Poet Laureate Proves Rhyme Doesn’t Pay

maine poet laureateThe first poem Stuart Kestenbaum remembers writing is one dedicated to food as a fifth grade student in New Jersey. Fast forward several decades, and the now longtime Deer Isle resident and seasoned poet has been named the Maine Poet Laureate.  Kestenbaum said that while the position does not have any official responsibilities and is largely an honorary post, he is excited to work with fellow Maine writers and organizations to develop initiatives to promote poetry across the state. “I want to find ways to make people feel comfortable with poetry, and to see its connection to our every day lives,” said Kestenbaum while sitting in his home.
