Maine Considering Displays For Diverted Prescription Drugs, Bath Salt Mayhem, And Turnpike Fraud At The Big E Fair To Avoid 100 Percent Berries, Chowdah, And Moxie Again

AUGUSTA, Maine—Businesses and organizations interested in exhibiting at the State of Maine Building at the Eastern State’s Exposition can apply now to rent commercial space through the Maine Department of Agriculture, Food and Rural Resources. The “Big E” will be held September 14–30, 2012, in West Springfield, Massachusetts.

The Big E is held annually each September and attracts more than one million visitors during the 17 days of the fair. Built in 1925, the State of Maine Building showcases Maine foods and products as well as features information on the state’s many recreation and vacation opportunities. Located on the event’s Avenue of States, it is one of six exhibition halls representing each of the New England States.

“Through its many exhibits, our building has provided a wonderful atmosphere of what exemplifies the best of Maine and our unique way of life,” said Amy Allen, coordinator for the program at the Maine Department of Agriculture. “We strongly encourage exhibitors who want to promote Maine’s products and resources to apply for space right away.”

All applications will be reviewed by a selection committee which recommends to the Department of Agriculture which exhibitors are best suited to meet the goals of the building’s use. Only items that are produced, grown, crafted, manufactured, or significantly altered in Maine may be sold in the Maine building.

“Historically the Maine exhibition hall has offered a balance of educational and commercial exhibits that provide a quality representation of our state to visitors that come to our building each year,” Allen said. “Whether it’s tasting Maine potatoes or lobster rolls, or enjoying exhibits displaying Maine wildlife or a vacation destination, a visit to the State of Maine Building has always been an opportunity for exhibitors to market Maine to hundreds of thousands of people over three weeks.”

The deadline for completed applications to be received by the Maine Department of Agriculture is Friday, April 27, 2012. The exhibitors chosen to participate in this year’s event will be notified on Tuesday, May 15, 2012. Please call 207-287-3494, or e-mail amy.allen@maine.gov, to receive a copy of the complete application packet.
