Flag Day is celebrated on June 14 in commemoration of the adoption of the United States flag. The flag was authorized by Congress on June 14, 1777, Peter Tracy, post adjutant, told the students. Tracy quizzed the students about colors of the flag and the number of stars and stripes on their last day of school before summer vacation. The red stands for valor and courage. The white is for hope and purity. The blue for justice and truth, he said. There is a star for every state some students responded and a stripe for each of the 13 original colonies. People in foreign countries see the American flag as a sign of hope, Tracy told them. (read more at the Franklin Journal)
