Born in Germany, Heimann was a Harvard University graduate, worked for defense contractors, and taught mathematics before moving to Maine 40 years ago. For the last 25 years, he has operated a sewing machine repair business named Sewing Machines Fixed. “My life has been a mix, really,” Heimann said. “There were ups and downs, but I’m here now, and that’s what matters.” Heimann was born in Berlin, Germany, in 1931. When Heimann was just 9 years old, he and his immediate family escaped to the United States only two weeks before the German army invaded Poland. Heimann said he does not enjoy talking about the time, as it was a dark time in his life. (read more at the Lincoln County News)
