Greater Sanford Literacy Volunteers Will Give You One Of Their AOL Disks. It’s Like 1000 Hours Free And You Can’t Believe How Many Cat Pictures They Have

SANFORD – For more than 26 years, the Literacy Volunteers of Greater Sanford have been helping educate adults in the basics of the three R’s: reading, writing and arithmetic. But now that gadgets such as laptops, phones and tablets, and the software that goes along with them, are on a need-to-know basis for many, the office has added a “C” into the formula – computer literacy.  To help with that mission, the organization has recently been holding “Technology Tuesdays” from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. in its Sanford office at 883 Main St.,  assisting anyone who needs help with a new technology item. The office is also open Tuesdays through Thursdays from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. for anyone needing of help. “Last year, about one-third of our new students were here only for computers, and that was a big thing for us, that was a change,” said Ingrid Baily, the executive director of the Literacy Volunteers. “With society today being so much technology oriented, the ability to use a computer or a smartphone has actually become a part of literacy.” (read more at Weekly Observer)
