Westbrook Man Honored For Forty Years Of Telling Town Hall Employees To Try Jiggling The Handle

WESTBROOK – When he first started with the city in 1972, Westbrook Public Services Director Tom Eldridge probably couldn’t imagine that he would still be working for the city 40 years later. But he is. At a ceremony at City Hall on Tuesday, Mayor Colleen Hilton honored Eldridge for his years of dedicated service to the city with a special plaque and the much-coveted key to the city. “Forty years with one employer is a long time,” Eldridge said after receiving the key from Hilton and City Administrator Jerre Bryant. Eldridge, 59, started working for the city in 1972 as a laborer in the sewer department when he was just 19 years old.
