Maine’s Poet Laureate To Be Honored By Obamas For Discovering A Word That Rhymes With “Two-Holer”

MERCER — Wesley McNair, Poet Laureate of Maine, will share his life story during the 11th annual National Book Festival this weekend in Washington, D.C., where he will join more than 100 authors and illustrators performing on the National Mall. The 70-year-old describes himself as a native of northern New England, having lived throughout the region, and he hopes to bring this “Yankee existence” to the celebration of American literary traditions, he said. He is among the five state poets laureate selected to give readings at the festival Saturday and Sunday. President Barack Obama and first lady Michelle Obama will be in attendance as honorary chairs of the event. McNair called it a special honor to perform his poems for the president and first lady.(KennebecJournal)
